Our Story
BioGreen is an initiative started by Dr Nagamani Bora at the University of Nottingham in 2018 with a critical question: How can experiential education empower students to transition from understanding sustainability to leading its implementation? She devised learning approaches to engage students from Plastic Waste Reduction to the circular economy-focused Grains to Greens project (repurposing brewers' spent grains as fertiliser), where students are placed at the helm of every stage—from experimental design to community engagement. The aim of the project is to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world action-based learning. The approach transforms the campus into a living laboratory. Today, BioGreen is more than an initiative; it is a platform for empowerment. By tackling tangible challenges like waste reduction and sustainable agriculture, our students develop the confidence and technical skills to shape the future—transitioning from observers of sustainability to active leaders of change.
