Our Story
BioGreen began in 2018 with a critical question: How can students move beyond learning about sustainability to actively leading it? Founded by Dr Nagamani Bora at the University of Nottingham, we bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world environmental action. Our approach transforms the campus into a living laboratory. From our foundational Plastic Waste Reduction initiative to the circular economy-focused Grains to Greens project (repurposing brewers' spent grains as fertiliser), students are placed at the helm of every stage—from experimental design to community engagement. Today, BioGreen is more than a research initiative; it is a platform for empowerment. By tackling tangible challenges like waste reduction and sustainable agriculture, our students develop the confidence and technical skills to shape the future—transitioning from observers of sustainability to active leaders of change.
